Pirate crew
A lineup of pirates each with their own quirks and charm. The girl on the barrel, captain Tilly, was intentionally designed with the features resembling dwarfism- imagined as a confident and commanding leader, despite her size. One-eyed Otto, always on-edge, is a bit of a scaredy-cat, constantly scanning the horizon for danger. Salty sue, with her candy cane-striped peg leg and unshakable confidence, is the backbone of the bunch.

This reference board helped shape the wardrobe of the pirate crew. Focusing on layered clothing and classic pirate details like hats, peg leg and belts.
Otto vs the Sea Monster
I wanted to place One-eyed Otto in a moment that reflects his jumpy ever-cautious nature. True to character he is caught in a panic- desperately trying to steer his ship away from an approaching sea monster. The scene gave me a chance to explore his personality in action and imagine how he might react when his worst fears come to life.

This collection served as visual reference for One-eyed Otto's pose as well as the structure and perspective of the ship. These helped shape the sense of urgency and direction in the final scene.
